The University Louis Pasteur (ULP, Strasbourg 1) merged at January 1, 2009 with the two other local universities Marc Bloch (UMB, Strasbourg 2) and Robert Schumann (URS, Strasbourg 3) to form Strasbourg University.

Université de Strasbourg (English: Strasbourg University) is Partner 6 of the Re.ViCa project, based in FR (France). Its short name is UdS.

Strasbourg University aims for the highest quality in research with a cross-disciplinary outlook, shared by specialists inspired by a spirit of tolerance and open-mindedness.

The very best practices stemming from research will be transmitted throughout the learning process, thereby providing all students with the critical analysis, intellectual openness and competence required for a smooth integration into a constantly changing professional world.

The University shall raise the challenge of providing excellence at all levels built up on its broad student base.


Education

  • 42,260 students, including 20% from abroad
  • 77 research and education units (UFR), 4 engineering schools, 3 university technology institutes,1 teacher-

training institute, offering 61 Master's Degrees, 35 general Bachelor's Degrees and 20 work-oriented Bachelor's Degrees

  • 10 doctoral schools and 2,550 doctoral students


Scientific Research

  • 77 research units, including 37 associated with national research organisations such as CNRS, INSERM and INRA
  • Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (MISHA)
  • 2,678 lecturers and researchers
  • 1,971 engineers, technicians and administrative staff


The educational offer and student's life

Strasbourg University is inter-disciplinary and covers virtually the whole spectrum of knowledge. To implement its educational strategy, Strasbourg University makes sure:

The doctoral college brings together all the University's doctoral schools to build up a coordinated doctoral policy and offer shared services and facilities benefiting young researchers.

Student life is a fundamental feature attracting students to Strasbourg University and must break new ground so as to offer a wide diversity of top-quality support services. The Culture Centre built on the main campus is a living space and medium for cultural expression and the symbol of the unification of the 3 universities.

The University will clarify its educational offer with a clear description of all the courses, available for consultation on the portal of university education in Alsace Université Numérique en Région Alsace (UNERA). It will also set up a career platform to help school-leavers and students make the right choices.


Research

To implement the establishment's scientific policy, Strasbourg University gathered all the tools and resources necessary to provide solid, constant support for research activities so that they may develop their potential to the full, innovative projects, and emerging teams and young researchers who carry the future of the University.

Strasbourg University wishes to enhance its research programs and move closer to the civil society. Beyond the contribution this represents for the learning process and career opportunities for students, the aim is also to increase the University's own resources.
