The Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Universidad Pompeu Fabra or Pompeu Fabra University, UPF) supports e-learning through its own intranet and CMS Campus Global.


UPF was founded in 1990 as a new public university in Catalonia.


The institution’s main office is in Barcelona, Spain. Other campuses are located in this city as well.


Today it has over 9,000 students, courses in all fields – from health and life sciences to human and social sciences and technical studies.

Its e-portal is called "Campus Global" (CG)

Campus Global is a registered trademark of UPF, which was implemented in 1998-99 as a response to the incorporation of ICT into the research, education and administrative areas. The name covers both the intranet and the Aula Global or Global Classroom with intensive use of ICT in courses and programmes. "It is, above all, an instrument at the service of asynchronous learning."


Features are: electronic mail, online forums, students' own personal academic file, course materials, exercise, chat, evaluations, ....


"Its aim is to efficiently complement and complete the education and training imparted at traditional classes. The development of CG and, above all, of the space known as Aula Global, has provided greater autonomy for the teaching staff in designing and publishing study materials and in the administration of the entire didactic process."


Furthermore, it also has the Institute of Continued Education / Institut d'Educació Contínua (IDEC) was set up in 1993 and is the tool implemented by Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) to develop continuing education and training for professionals in close collaboration with the world of business.

Reports

In 2009, UPF was, for the first time, among the top 500 universities in the world (in the 402-501 bracket of Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2009) and it was among the top 100 world-wide, and number one in the Spanish State, in the field of computing. The Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings (THES) which lists the world's 600 best teaching and research centres appointed UPF 324th place in the world and 138th place in Europe.
