The University of London supports distance learning and awards through the University of London External System.


The University of London is a federation of 19 self-governing Colleges of and a number of acclaimed central academic Institutes and activities. One of its members is University College London (UCL).

The University of London is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the UK. Established by Royal Charter in 1836, the University is recognised globally as a world leader in Higher Education. It offers flexible learning through the London External System: the University of London was the first university in the world to offer distance learning degrees – more than a century before the open universities were founded – through its External System established in 1858.
