MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has long been known as an important US institution in the exploration of e-Learning.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. MIT has five schools and one college, containing a total of 32 academic departments, with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological research.

MIT has often been on the cutting edge of online education, as seen by its controversial decision to launch the MIT OpenCourseWare project (see section below), announced in April 2001.

Today MIT offers numerous services related to distance or open learning, such us mobile services for students, wherein they may access a "people" directory, schedules, and other tools - e.g. access to public lectures and course videos in particular.

Further details

Researchers should note MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW), a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content (e.g. free lecture notes, exams, and videos). OCW is open and available to the world as a permanent MIT activity.
