The Swedish Agency for Networks and Cooperation in Higher Education (NSHU) was set up to be in charge of the Swedish Net University - in fact, prior to 2006 it was known as the Swedish Net University Agency.

In 2006 the Agency was given two additional main tasks: educational development and widening participation. In addition, it was tasked to promote the changes in the structure of Swedish higher education and degrees which result from changes in Europe, in everyday language called the Bologna Process, and through dialogue and openness it is to promote collaboration between Sweden’s universities and university colleges and, together with them, support further development.

Recently, the Swedish Government has decided to give The Swedish Agency for Networks and Cooperation in Higher Education notice of closure. The agency will be shut down by the end of 2008. The 2008 budget has been reduced by 20 million SEK. an An inquiry will recommend how the Net University will be organised in the future - it is likely to continue as a portal to courses from Swedish universities delivered mainly by e-learning.

The Agency's web site is at http://www.nshu.se/english/

The Agency is a member of EADTU.
