Seven Seas

In Medieval European literature, the Seven Seas referred to the following seas:

  1. Persian Gulf
  2. Black Sea
  3. Caspian Sea
  4. Red Sea
  5. Mediterranean Sea (in the wide sense, lapping the shores of Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa)
  6. Adriatic Sea
  7. Arabian Sea (which is part of the Indian Ocean)

Essentially these seas enclose Europe and the areas immediately influenced by it.
