The Azores is an archipelago of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Politically. it is an autonomous region of Portugal.
It has an estimated population of 238,000. See the wikipedia article for more information.
The Azores has just one university, Universidade dos Açores - in English, University of the Azores. This is a public university and the westernmost university in Portugal. It was founded in 1976, just after the April Revolution in 1974.
