EFQUEL, the European Foundation for Quality in E-learning, is a European membership organisation that approaches quality in e-learning from different and complementary perspectives and develops full-scale services for all educational fields, regional contexts, and target groups. The Foundation aims at building a sustainable and proactive network of actors, providing valuable services to the European e-learning community.

The mission of EFQUEL

The mission of EFQUEL is to enhance the quality of eLearning in Europe by providing a new services framework for members and support for all stakeholders. EFQUEL is built on principles of dialogue and inclusiveness to promote excellence and innovation to achieve Learning Europe. The objective of the European-wide EFQUEL is to provide full-scale services for all educational fields, regional contexts and target groups.


Activities of EFQUEL

During its first years of operations, EFQUEL has set up a various activities:

  • EFQUEL continuously identifies the actors involved with quality in European eLearning and involves them into a European community of users and experts. In parallel it monitors the demand for information and support on the issue of eLearning quality emerging from the European lifelong learning community.
  • EFQUEL accompanies EU policy developments in the field of eLearning quality and produces and disseminates policy papers and recommendations.
  • EFQUEL identifies and coordinates the existing eLearning quality marks at national level, build synergies among them and promote the establishment of a new European eLearning quality mark.
  • EFQUEL continuously monitors research and innovative practices in the field of eLearning quality and documents innovative initiatives and approaches.
  • EFQUEL works on basis of a number of experts' Working Groups depending on the needs arisen. Everybody is invited to support this work, share experiences and shape the European eLearning Agenda.
  • EFQUEL participates actively in various European projects in the area of quality of eLearning both as an initiator as well as an active implementor.
  • EFQUEL seeks actively also contacts and projects outside of Europe to enhance its own experiences in the quality work of eLearning as well as to share its experiences with its international partners.


History of EFQUEL

In 2004, at Online Educa Berlin, the EQO, SEEL, and SEEQUEL e-learning projects launched the European Foundation for Quality in E-learning, EFQUEL. After that, the TRIANGLE project has provided the environment for successfully establishing EFQUEL and the Foundation has taken its first steps in the framework of this project.

The Foundation's initiators are the European Institute for eLearning, the European Schoolnet, FIM NewLearning, the MENON Network, the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Reading.

The EFQUEL Office

The EFQUEL headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium.


Members

EFQUEL is a European membership organisation and consists at the moment of 70 members from nearly 20 European countries. The members represent European associations, universities, companies and vocational training institutions.
