The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also known as the ULPGC (Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) supports lifelong learning and a range of e-learning research activities (in addition to various traditional face-to-face degrees).
ULPGC is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. It consists of five campuses: four in Gran Canaria (Tafira, Obelisco, San Cristóbal and Montaña Cardones) and one in the island of Lanzarote. Tafirs is its largest.
The University was created in 1989 as the aggregation of the teaching centers of former "Universidad Politécnica de Canarias", focused on engineering (civil, electronics and computer), and the centers from neighboring Universidad de La Laguna that were located in Las Palmas province.
ULPGC is publicly funded by the Canary Islands regional government.
The university offers 5 undergraduate degrees, 9 official postgraduate degrees and 8 doctorate programmes adapted to the new EAHE criteria, as well as a further 48 official undergraduate degrees.
The ULPGC’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, a mixed unit formed by the University and the Las Palmas Canary Islands University Foundation, offers numerous separate postgraduate qualifications.
CICEI
ULPGC is host to the Centro de Innovación para la Sociedad de la Información (CICEI) or innovation Center for the Information Society, an e-learning, e-government and e-business R&D center. Regrettably it is difficult to locate information about CICEI in English.
