The Katholieke Hogeschool Zuid-West-Vlaanderen (KATHO) is a university college that supports e-learning through its Open Hoger Onderwijs subdivision and through the LMS Toledo which also incorporates Blackboard and which is being used in the whole K.U.Leuven Association of which this HEI is a member.

KATHO has as its baseline “Enjoy Lifelong Learning Worldwide”. Its core business is to ensure higher education for students at bachelor level (industrial sciences, agro-biotechnology, business studies, teacher training, nursing and midwifery, social sciences) with bridges to master degrees.

KATHO is “open” to the world. We work closely together with the very export-oriented local and regional “enterprises” in the broadest sense.

The institution’s main office is in Kortrijk, Belgium. Other campuses are located in Roeselare, Tielt and Torhout.

KATHO has approximately 7.000 students and 520 staff members.

The Katholieke Hogeschool Zuid-West-Vlaanderen web site is at http://www.katho.be

KATHO is a member of the K.U.Leuven Association, which is also a case study on this wiki.

KATHO is also partner in the Florence network, a European organisation of 34 HEI, specifically for nursing and midwifery. In 2000 about 15 of the European partner institutions in the engineering department of KaHo Sint-Lieven, have established the EUCLIDES network, which is coordinated by KaHo Sint-Lieven.

More details

KATHO lists a special page for Open Hoger Onderwijs (OHO) or Open Higher Education which is Further Education with distance learning through self-study, though guidance is possible on-campus.
