The Virtual and E-mobility for Networking Universities in Society (VENUS) project was selected under the EU's Erasmus Virtual Campuses programme in 2005. It was funded from 2006-2008.
According to the original project description:
- VENUS aims to internationalise prestigious courses, with international scope and importance, in each member university through virtual mobility, open to both students and citizens. The content will focus on promoting European citizenship, collaboration and personal development... The overall objective is to create a sustainable best-practice example of the "Faculty of Extension", extended both in the sense of methods and target public.

The REal Virtual Erasmus (REVE) was selected in 2004, and funded from 1 January 2005 until 31 December 2006 by the European Commission - DG Education & Culture under the eLearning programme.
