The Idaho Electronic Campus (IEC) serves as a web-based 'marketplace' for the online courses offered by the seven publicly funded colleges and universities in state of Idaho, US. IEC seeks to provide services and support to traditional students as well as lifelong learners. Participating colleges and universities offer online courses through the IEC web site, though all manage admissions, registration, course delivery and certification/degrees separately.

After extensive consultation, the Idaho Electronic Campus was launched in 2000 as a collaborative effort by the Idaho Board of Education, Access Idaho (a public-private partnership), and Idaho’s seven public institutions of higher learning. As part of this US state-wide initiative, resources for development of online courses have been provided directly by the state, via the private Idaho Information Consortium (IIC):

The IIC provides, at no cost to the institutions, the necessary hardware and software to host the distance learning web site, the Idaho Electronic Campus. The Board and participating colleges and universities provide the necessary data and information in an agreed upon electronic format.

Courses may be offered via e-mail, internet, CD-ROM, videotape, broadcast television, ITFS (instructional television fixed service), microwave, satellite, interactive video, audio tapes and audioconferencing.

It is difficult to gauge how many courses are presently available; although the IEC web site seems to be maintained, a September 2008 search of its course catalogue showed listings for 2005 through 2007 only. The web site (updated in 2007) states that 1600 courses are available and that, of these, only two participating institutions offer complete undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (North Idaho College and Boise State University).
