The European Small and medium entreprise E-learning Network (ESEN) was selected in 2001 under Erasmus Transversal Actions, and funded from 2002-2004. As noted in the project description:

This project will create a European Small and medium entreprise E-learning Network (ESEN) for the sharing of expertise and best-practice.

It is reported anecdotally that ESEN sought to provide mid-career 're-skilling' of SME leaders to equip them for the knowledge economy, as trialled in six European countries.

An ESEN web site resides at http://www.henley.reading.ac.uk/henleyres03.nsf/pages/cbde_projects_esen/
