The Open University of Brazil (Universidade Aberta do Brasil, UAB) was created in 2005 by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC). It focuses on distant learning as the best means of providing opportunities for those who do not otherwise have access to education in their own communities.
UAB represents a partnership among public universities, states and cities governments, and is coordinated by MEC.
