The Idaho Electronic Campus (IEC) serves as an online 'marketplace' for online courses offered by the state's seven publicly funded colleges and universities. IEC seeks to provide services and support to traditional students as well as lifelong learners. Participating colleges and universities across the state of Idaho, US, offer online degrees through its web site, though the individual institutions manage admissions, registration, course delivery and certification/degrees.

After extensive consultation, the Idaho Electronic Campus was launched as a collaborative effort in 2000 by the Idaho Board of Education, Access Idaho (a public-private partnership), and Idaho’s seven public institutions of higher learning. In an unusual model for a US state:

>>The IIC provides, at no cost to the institutions, the necessary hardware and software to host the distance learning web site, the Idaho Electronic Campus. The Board and participating colleges and universities provide the necessary data and information in an agreed upon electronic format.

Courses may be offered via e-mail, internet, CD-ROM, videotape, broadcast television, ITFS (instructional television fixed service), microwave, satellite, interactive video, audio tapes and audioconferencing. In 2007, two participating institutions offered complete online degrees (North Idaho College and Boise State University).

It is difficult to gage how many courses are available; 2006 estimates were as high as 1600. Although the IEC web site seems to be maintained, a September 2008 search of its course catalogue showed listings for 2005 through 2007 only.
