The Open University of Cyprus (Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, OUC) supports distance learning through the web and multimedia.

The Open University of Cyprus is a State Institution of Higher Education that offers undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as training and vocational programs using a certain style of learning which is called “open and distance learning”, the purpose of which is to satisfy the demand for lifelong learning and continuing education.

The OUC uses multimedia and the web for its distance learning. Some techniques and methods are:

  • course material in digital form on the internet, on CDs and DVDs, or from printed course material
  • weblectures (and in the near future, using subscription television, at fixed timetables, specified by the teaching personnel)
  • By using the Electronic Gate in order to find relevant information concerning Thematic Units, which is the basic operational unit of each course and to contact with professors or lecturers using synchronized and non-synchronized technologies such as chat, videoconferencing, and forums
  • Group Advisory Meetings

The final examination requires the physical presence of the student (but when possible, both Group Advisory Meetings and final exams will take place at the students’ home towns).
