Sioux Falls School District
The Sioux Falls School District (SFSD) is a school district located in the US state of South Dakota, which has implemented online courses in all three of its traditional high schools and its alternative high school. Students are able to enroll in online courses through Apex Learning and through the South Dakota Virtual School-supported courses.
720 course slots are expected to be taken during to 2012-2013 year (number of students unknown).
Students work with SFSD high school counselors to determine whether an online course is appropriate. All are externally led courses where teachers are not part of the school district. Students have five months to finish all courses, which are free if taken during the student's "regular school day" and are thus supplemental. Students must pay for "extra" (e.g. evening, weekend and summer) classes.
