Jharkhand is a state in eastern India, created out of southern Bihar in 2000. It borders Bihar to the north, West Bengal to the east, Orissa to the south, and Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west.
The population of Jharkhand is 32.9 million according to the 2011 census. The state capital is Ranchi and its largest city is Jamshedpur.

Jharkhand has a literacy rate of 67.63% according to the 2011 census. There are six unversities in the state:
- Ranchi University in Ranchi
- Birsa Agricultural University in Ranchi
- Sido Kanhu Murmu University in Dumka
- Kolhan University in Chaibasa
- Bhave University in Hazaribagh
- Nilambar Pitambar University in medininagar
