The Louisiana Virtual School (LVS) is a US state virtual school founded in 2000. It is based in the state of Louisiana. LVS works with 78 school districts; all students enroll in LVS through their own school, and receive their diploma locally. Courses are for high school students only, and may be either regular core courses or electives. Courses may be taken within the classroom or from home.
LVS had 14,000 course enrollments for 5,789 students in 2009-10, representing 27% growth since 2008-09. Despite record growth, for 2010-11 the total budget was reduced significantly.
