Northern British Columbia Distance Education School (NBCDES) is a Distributed Learning/Distance Education School providing BC Ministry of Education approved courses and programs to learners in northern BC and the Yukon. NBCDES offers students the opportunity to access some courses online and to use Audacity and Google Apps to submit digital assignments and communicate/collaborate. A significant proportion of its provision remains correspondence/paper based.

Northern British Columbia has a long tradition of distance learning and claims its correspondence learning to be the second oldest in the world (after New South Wales).
