''Eric Beerkens'' joined the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) of the University of Twente (the Netherlands) as a research associate in 1998. At this moment he is working as an independent researcher for CHEPS. He has been conducting research into a wide range of policy and management issues in higher education, some of them focussing on the use of ICT in higher education. Since 2000 he has been working on a PhD project on international higher education consortia in Europe and Southeast Asia. The resulting dissertation “Global Opportunities and Institutional Embeddedness: Higher Education Consortia in Europe and Southeast Asia”, defended on 14 May 2004, was awarded the highest distinction (cum laude).

Before joining Nuffic Eric was a Sesqui postdoctoral fellow at the University of Sydney in Australia. I also was a research associate at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands from 1998 - 2005.  


His main interests include the impact of globalisation on higher education management and governance; the behaviour of transnational actors in the global and regional environment; and the institutional embeddedness of organisations in an era of increasing globalisation and internationalisation.
My professional and research interests are in policies and politics in the fields of higher education and science & technology, especially issues related to internationalisation, globalisaton, international cooperation and regional integration.

I also was a research associate at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) in the Netherlands from 1998 - 2005.

My professional and research interests are in policies and politics in the fields of higher education and science & technology, especially issues related to internationalisation, globalisaton, international cooperation and regional integration.
