Uttarakhand Open University was established in 2006 as the 13th open university in India. It is located in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. It was initially known as Uttaranchal Open University, after the state of Uttaranchal, but in 2007 state name was officially changed to Uttarakhand.
Courses are to focus primarily on subjects like tourism and hotel management, forestry, and natural resources preservation and development.
A Yahoo India news piece from December 2008 reveals the fledgling university's many struggles, including management, budgetary and academic.
The Uttarakhand Open University does not seem to have a web site as of January 2009.
