The University of California College Prep (UC College Prep, UCCP) is statewide programme of the University of California, located in the US state of California. It "publishes free high-quality online courses and content to benefit California students, with a special emphasis on helping underserved students gain college eligibility".

UCCP is operated by the University of California Santa Cruz. In 2009-10, it provided 120 educational nonprofit partners across the state - including 14 county offices of education, about 50 school districts and 40 schools - its online curriculum with instruction and course credit.

That year 323,337 California students were exposed to UC College Prep courses and content.

Since 1999 the school has offered supplemental courses, targeting the one million students in California who attend schools that do not offer enough college prep or "a-g" courses for their students to prepare for college. Schools, districts and other partners deliver UC College Prep courses to these and other students online.

UCCP does not now instruct its courses or offer academic services beyond content development and distribution - though it once did.

More Details

UC College Prep identifies California schools, districts and county offices of education with high concentrations of underserved students and aimed its marketing and outreach efforts to those partners. It deploys its materials through the K-12 High Speed Network, which connects to over 5 million California students.

UC College Prep’s funding comes predominantly from the University of California’s Student Academic Preparation and Educational Partnerships (SAPEP) program, which funds academic and college prep programs statewide.
