The Unive Project - Creating network-based e-university model for the small in the context of e-learning in Europe (UNIVE, UNIVe) was selected in 2003 under the Socrates Minerva project.

As stated in the original project description:

The UNIVe project is aiming at achieving the following specific objectives:
  1. To implement the outcomes of 9 independent projects in 6 core e-learning areas;
  2. To develop the model of small state e-university;
  3. To launch a series of integrated pilot projects in the frames of the model;
  4. To make this innovative and integrated type of e-university model available for the wider community.
The target groups of UNIVe are: groups related to the test-country Estonia (learners, teaching and supporting staff; universities; decision makers); potential users of the developed small state e-university model (other states and universities) and European universities covered by the project network and relevant parties in the field of ODL and ICT. The main activities are the analysis of previous EC supported international and national initiatives in the field, designing activities of the small-state e-university model and launching a series of integrated pilot projects. The main output is the small state euniversity model. The model will be described in a compendium and on a CD/DVD ROM, which is also including all materials of the project process. The strengthened European network of the main players in the e-learning field can be considered as a more general output of UNIVe.
