Based in California, US, e-Berkeley (at the University of California-Berkeley, or UC-Berkeley) was described in 2005 as follows:
- e-Berkeley is a new Chancellor's initiative whose goal is to use the power of the Web to transform the way the university operates, from day-to-day functions to its central mission of teaching and research. e-Berkeley is an open-ended, ongoing project, guided by the needs and input of Berkeley students, faculty, staff, alumni, and business partners.
During the peak of its activities, one of e-Berkeley's primary goals was to see the implementation of web-based learning systems to fruition. The project seems to have operated primarily from 2001-2005 (its web site has not been updated since 2005, though it remains online). During that time successfully and transparently brought a vast array of university systems to the internet, both educational and administrative.
