The Ministerio de Educación (Ministry of Education, MINEDUC) in Chile.
MINEDUC is the Ministry of State responsible for promoting the development of education at all levels, to assure all people access to basic education, to stimulate scientific and technological research and artistic creation, and the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage of the nation of Chile. It is therefore responsible for primary education, secondary education, vocational education, libraries, archives and museums.
One of the Ministry's tasks is to manage the Prueba de Selección Universitaria (PSU) or Universitary Selection Test, a single, transparant admission system to all state universities and to several of the oldest private universities. The system is very similar to the US SAT Reasoning Test and its design and the correction is performed by the Universidad de Chile (University of Chile).
Together with the Fundación Chile, the ministry created educarchile, the Chilean education portal.
The current Minister of Education (2008) is Mónica Jiménez de la Jara.
The Ministerio de Educación web site is at http://www.mineduc.cl.
