The Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group or (La Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo, AUGM), it was created in 1991, is formed by universities of different countries in latin American like: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. AUGM is headquartered in the latter.

Its objectives are the strengthening and consolidation of human resources, scientific and technological research, continuing education and interaction with members of their society.

There are several projects and programs but one of them is the UNESCO cathedra. This cathedra is an initiative of the United Nations agency which aims to improve and advance the development of research, training and development programs in higher education by building university networks and encouraging inter-university cooperation through the transfer of knowledge across borders.

There are included 19 universities of the countries that we said above.

Grupo Montevideo is a University Association with a supportive distribution of high qualified academic staff, academic material resources, installations, equipment, teams, laboratories, and libraries; it is a common broaded academic space where barriers are opened and a variety of possibilities as well. However, it does not qualify as an E-Learning Initiative and so is not a Programme in our sense.
