- The Global Uni Alliance - web site http://www.gua-edu.com (and also http//www.gua.edu) - set up in Penang, Malaysia in 2002
- The Global University Alliance set up in conjunction with NextEd in around 2000 with around 10 member institutions - but it is not year clear whether this still is extant (news article RMIT University, Australia, 2000)
- The Global U8 Consortium (GU8) - web site http://site.inha.ac.kr/xelpa/users/u7/3_10.jsp - which appears to contain several of the original members of the GUA in item 3, such as RMIT and the University of Washington
