The University of the Arctic (UArctic) consortium is a cooperative network of universities, colleges, and other institutions in the Circumpolar North. Its mission is to create a strong, sustainable circumpolar region, by reducing barriers to higher education in the North. UArctic is not a degree-granting institution, but does offer courses to students. Students must typically register with participating universities in order to take classes, either via the web or through face-to-face programmes. UArctic was launched in 2001.
The University of the Arctic web site is at http://www.uarctic.org/
