Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM) is a public university based primarily in Mexico City. It was founded in 1910. In 2006, it had roughly 280,000 students enrolled (primarily pursuing undergraduate degrees). UNAM has campus all across Mexico, and four small extension campuses in the US and Canada (in San Antonio, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; and Gatineau, Quebec). The extension campuses focus largely on promoting knowledge of Spanish language and Mexican culture.
