Established in the 1970s, Deakin University (Deakin) is one of the largest universities in Australia, with more than 32,000 students. Both traditional and nontraditional students are targeted as learners, and distance learning is a focus. In the 1990s Deakin turned its focus to the 'upgrading and retraining of people in the workforce' and to this end, maintains many educational relationships with corporations, government agencies and associations (via DeakinPrime).
Deakin has four campuses in Australia, and an office in Beijing, China.
