A former Headteacher of an urban comprehensive and Principal of three colleges, Giles has consulted for KPMG as well as independently.  His main areas of expertise are management and governance, strategy development, curriculum design and financial planning. Giles also has a strong interest in lifelong learning and the standing of Modern Foreign Languages.


Giles Pepler is a Senior Consultant at Sero Consulting. He managed Sero's 2007 study of e-maturity in Scotland’s Colleges for the Scottish Funding Council - see http://www.sero.co.uk/sfc.html.  From 2008 to 2010 he was responsible for the annual survey of ICT in education at Further Education colleges in England for Becta - see http://www.sero.co.uk/showcase-becta1.html and http://www.sero.co.uk/showcase-becta-survey.html; and he has extensive experience in the design and implementation of research programmes - nationally and regionally – to measure the impact of ICT in education and of digital inclusion strategies.  
Whilst at Sero, Giles has led a number of projects for BECTA, including the annual Harnessing Technology FE Survey that informed national statistics, an international benchmarking survey of over 200 institutions and a review of e-maturity in adult and community learning settings.


He has been Principal of 3 English further education colleges – an urban tertiary college, plus a suburban and a multi-ethnic urban sixth form college.  From 1992 to 1995 he worked as an education management consultant, including at KPMG. Giles was from 2010-13 Deputy Project Manager for VISCED, an EU funded global study of virtual schools, colleges and online
 
learning and is now Deputy Project Manager for POERUP, an EU Lifelong Learning Programme looking at policy and uptake of Open Educational Resources.
