The Federation of distance education universities is an association that was created in 1987 by the Ministry for National Education in France. It now gathers 36 universities and aims at uniting in a network all universities that develop all sorts of distance and online trainings. It also provides for an international representation for French distance education in connection with the institutional organisations (Ministry of foreign affairs, Ministry for cooperation, etc...). It is also implicated, as a partner or a project leader, in various projects on education and ICT with a view to improve quality in training and support to students. Finally, it aims to open up to all universities or institutions involved in open distance education.
