Jammu and Kashmir is a state in the far north of India. It borders China to the north and east, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south, and the Pakistan territories of Azad Kashmir to the west and Gilgit-Baltistan to the north-west.
The 2011 census records a population of 12.5 million over 22 districts. The state capital is Jammu in winter and Srinagar in summer, also the largest city.
