Heriot-Watt University originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh in 1821 and became a University by Royal Charter in 1966.
The institution’s main office is in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. Other campuses are the Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels in the UK and since March 2006 also the Dubai Campus in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) in Dubai. Heriot-Watt University’s International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT) is located on the Orkney Campus in Stromness (UK).
HW has 17,000 registered students: 7000 on-campus students in Scotland (of which 25% are outside of the UK) and 10,000 students worldwide are studying the international programmes. The university has around 1,000 Masters students and 400 research on-campus postgraduates.
