Currently NEXus consists of seven institutions providing distance-accessible courses for students (Academic Collaborators) and two institutions that do not offer courses but have NEXus courses available to their students (Academic Affiliates).

As noted on the NEXus web site, NEXus has recently announced the launch of the DNP Pilot online course exchange as of Fall 2009. "Five of our current members (Arizona State University, Oregon Health and Science University, University of Colorado Denver, University of Northern Colorado, and University of Utah) are participating in the DNP Pilot during the initial implementation phase."

NEXus is a partnership among select Western Institute of Nursing institutions in the US. It was launched in 2004 to increase the capacity of programs through sharing and jointly creating academic resources.
