Jeff Haywood is Vice Principal Knowledge Management, Chief Information Officer & Librarian, University of Edinburgh; Professor of Education & Technology, School of Education, University of Edinburgh; Director, Scottish Centre for Research into On-Line Learning & Assessment (SCROLLA); and Immediate past Chair & Member of e-Learning Task Force, Coimbra Group of Universities.

Former posts at Edinburgh include as Director of Flexible Learning and of the University Media & Learning Technology Service (MALTS). Prior to that he was a member of the academic staff of the School of Education, having moved from there from the Faculty of Medicine in 2000 as his biological sciences research finally gave way to a firmer interest in educational research.

He is immediate past chair and member of the Coimbra Group e-learning Taskforce, and a member of Universitas 21's working party on ICT in learning and teaching.

Over the past seven years he has held grants from the Scottish Education Funding Councils to develop and deliver a variety of learning technology materials under TLTP, UMI and the C&IT Programmes, acting as project leader of two (MARBLE and SCWEIMS).

His research focusses mainly on the evaluation of large national, international or institutional ICT initiatives (as leader of the teams which evaluated used of TLTP materials for HEFCE and LTDI for SHEFC, and a member of an EU-funded project to evaluate institutional ICT strategies); and on students' attitudes towards and experiences of ICT during their undergraduate years.
