The Hong Kong Virtual University (HKVU) supports online education for Hong Kong tertiary institutions and universities.
According to the Wikipedia entry (Aug 20 2009) it was formerly known as the "Cyber University", founded in 2001 as a collaborative program funded by the Restructuring and Collaboration Fund of the Hong Kong University Grants Committee. (HKVU is not mentioned on the UGC web site, though its status is confirmed elsewhere on the web - with most coverage dating to 2005-2007.)
Students of Hong Kong tertiary institutions and universities may take the online courses offered by HKVU. These various courses are jointly provided by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, and The University of Hong Kong.
Online courses cover four areas: general education, information technology, language, and science and education.
The Hong Kong Virtual University is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (UST), in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
