The National Open University,(Universidad Nacional Abierta, UNA) it was founded in 1977 in Caracas the capital of Venezuela, this is a public institution with national coverage and leader in high education under the distance mode. They have a lot of centers around the country, to be exactly 67 offices.

It was the first university in Venezuela that focus their business in distance education, using different ways of teaching like distance education, tele-education, programmed instruction

Their mission is:

The National Open University is a Venezuelan official and experimental institution as an organized system of open and distance education at national and international level, to expand and democratize access to quality education and committed to the development of the country.

To achieve its purposes, the University uses different strategies specific to the mode of distance education, research as an institutionalized practice as well as various forms of inter-linkages.

All of their courses are taught via distance learning, they offer a wide range of courses, Bachelor degree, post degree and life longing studies. The main fields taught are business, education, engineering, and mathematics.

They offer a course before beginning the academic year that it will show the student how to study via distance learning, and how to success.
