Carleton University Television (CUTV)

Per the Carleton University Television (CUTV) web site, CUTV is an innovative program that was developed to provide flexible access to roughly 60 of Carleton's credit courses to over 4500 students. Students from across Canada and the continental United States access Carleton University courses using CUTV's Video-on-Demand Service.

In an effort to accommodate students, all CUTV courses are offered in the following modes of delivery:

  • Broadcast on Rogers Ottawa Digital Cable (channel 240)
  • CUTV Webcast
  • Video-on-Demand (via WebCT)
  • CUTV Student Centre

Instructional Television (ITV) began delivering higher education courses to Ottawa-area homes in 1978, originally with University of Ottawa and Algonquin College. Later, as Carleton expanded its ITV course offerings, the other institutions bowed out to pursue other forms of distance education.

In the early 1990s, ITV began offering a videocassette delivery service to allow distance education students outside the cable broadcast area access to Carleton courses.

CUTV unveiled the on-line Live Stream service in the fall of 2004 as a complimentary way to view course lectures. In the fall of 2005, CUTV began offering all courses via the Video on Demand.
