The Clyde Virtual University (CVU) was a collaboration between some universities in Glasgow, Scotland in the UK.

It was one of Europe’s first virtual universities, founded in 1995. It received two rounds of funding from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC).

The project created some innovative course material and has been cited by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) as an example of best practice.

There is a paper which gives a summative evaluation of CVU which took place after three years' operation and looks critically at the strengths and shortcomings of using the Web to deliver higher education in the West of Scotland. See Evaluating three years' use of a virtual university at http://www.emeraldinsight.com/Insight/viewContentItem.do?contentType=Article&hdAction=lnkhtml&contentId=839647.

CVU no longer is functional and is not now seen as relevant to the further development of e-learning at UK universities.
