The ''Katherine School of the Air'' ('''KSA''') is a [[virtual school]] in Katherine, Northern Territory, [[Australia]].


KSA was established in 1966 and currently enrols approximately 250 enrolled students, who live on cattle stations and Aboriginal communities and families who are travelling throughout Australia and Overseas.

It is a [http://www.det.nt.gov.au/ Northern Territory Department of Education and Training] Primary and Middle school which caters for isolated children from pre-school up to Year 9 in the top half of the Northern Territory and for Northern Territory residents temporarily travelling or based elsewhere. KSA calls itself the ''largest classroom in the world''.

Its mission is to provide quality distance education programs which allow students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners.

The teaching staff is comprised of 22 teachers and 10 support personnel.


The term ''[[School of the Air]]'' refers air waves; KSA was established in 1966 as a 'radio school' but radio has faded as a tool. In 2003 the Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) trials began, two years later the radio lessons ceased and since 2006 by the Interactive Distance Learning Studio officially opens.

Today the school delivers lessons via satellite, Internet and telecommunications technologies.
