&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;The ''Next Generation Learning Challenges'' (NGLC) programme is a collaborative, multi-year initiative to provide grants, gather evidence about effective practices and foster growth of a diverse community around the development of affordable, high-quality learning tools for students today. All Open Core Courseware content must be freely licensed.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was announced in October 2010 and funded by the Bill &amp;amp; Melinda Gates Foundation to the level of  $20 million. The overall aim is to improve US post-secondary readiness and completion through educational technology – with a focus on Open Educational Resources (OER).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Retention is of major concern in America, where 30% of students drop out of high school and 42% who begin college or university will never complete it. Coordinated by [http://www.educause.edu EDUCAUSE] and other nonprofits, NGLC seeks to identify &amp;quot;transformative&amp;quot; educational technology solutions to address barriers to postsecondary student success.&lt;br /&gt;
