==Responsibilities==<br />

CEPS is the body responsible for authorizing the operation of private universities as independent institutions, it is up organizing and developing the private higher education of the Nation.<br />

The current functions of the Council are: <br />
* Ensuring that academic standard is maintained in private universities without compromising their independence. <br />
* To authorize the creation of new universities. <br />
* Agree to implement sanctions as provided by law.<br />

==Members==<br />
The Council of Private Higher Education is composed as follows: <br />
* Two delegates from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala; <br />
* Two representatives of private universities and <br />
* A delegate elected by the presidents of the "professional colleges" not holding any position in any university.<br />
